Political Asylum, San Rafael, Bay Area

To qualify for political asylum, you must meet two requirements:

1. The applicant must fear persecution in their home country.
2. The applicant must prove that they would be persecuted based on one of the five protective grounds, including nationality, religion, political opinion, race, and social group.

Political asylum means having the right to live in a foreign country (the United States in this case). Political asylum is given or granted by the United States government.
The immigration authorities will determine whether or not the asylum seeker will be granted protection based on one of the five grounds. When given protection, the asylum seeker will become a recognized refugee.
When the immigration authorities decide that the case is refused, the asylum seeker becomes an illegal immigrant and may be asked to leave the country and can be deported in some cases.

The difference between a refugee and political asylum is that the person requesting asylum in the United States is called an asylum seeker. The immigrant who is granted asylum is called a refugee.

The process of asylum can last a long time. If you apply here in San Rafael or somewhere else in the Bay Area, we typically see a waiting time between a few months and several years. Your chances of winning an asylum case dramatically increase when you hire an experienced lawyer. Winning a political asylum case in the USA without help from an attorney is nearly impossible.

The asylum immigration law in the United States is very complex and ever-changing. The asylum rules are ever changing, that’s why it’s essential to keep up to date not to miss anything regarding your case.

Asylees and refugees are entitled to certain public benefits like social security, Medicaid, and food stamps for the first seven years after being granted asylum. After those seven years, we see that extension of these benefits is possible. These benefits are given to refugees to help them in adjusting to life in the United States.
